With wedding season fast approaching and bookings being snatched up for POP! Mobile Bubbly Bar, we are busy doing some menu planning for simple but tasty canapés to go with our delicious bubbly.
Cocktail hour is always a tricky one. Guests are left to sip on champagne and mingle while the bride and groom disappear for their lengthy photograph session. It is usually the waiting period between the I Do’s and the dinner, which means guests are getting hungry as the bubbles are being replenished. It is always a good idea to serve some food during this time so that by the time guests are seated at the reception; their stomachs are not completely empty.
We recommend keeping it light and simple but still something to give the guests an idea of the meal that awaits them. A smoked salmon Bellini is always a winner, and one can never go wrong with a fresh, beautiful oyster. Oysters can be served au natural with some lemon and Tabasco, or they can be spruced up with shallot vinaigrette or an Asian-inspired topping, which is equally as delicious. Both of these options pair very well with the light acidity and flavour of the bubbly.
Another route to go is to have a harvest table filled with delicious cheeses, cured meats, pates and pickles, served with some fresh breads, croutes or crackers.
These can be displayed beautifully, think wooden boards and platters, and guests can help themselves as they please. Cheese and bubbly is always a winning combination.
